Dev Update 2025-09-12

Greetings!

It has been a while since I have posted anything, so I wanted to take the time to inform you all as to the current state of things.

1. Yes, there is a "light" expansion in the works, below are the highlights.

   a. 🗺️ 2 new zones: Zenders Woods & Devon Forest

   b. 🏘 1 new town

   c. 4 new dungeons

   d. 🌀 Level 7 skills

   e. 🗡 New weapons & armor

   f. 📈 Level cap raised to 300

   g. There will no be free skill resets with this expansion

2. New client built with Godot

   1. The new client is coming along nicely, at the moment much of the effort is focused on three things:

      1. Legacy client compatibility - our current plan is to maintain support of the legacy client with the new infrastructure. To achieve this we're re-tooling the legacy client to handle some of the new content where we can and implementing overall QoL improvements that you all have given us. Dhel is spearheading this operation and he has many improvements in the pipe!

      2. Godot Editor - TRO was built with a "WorldEditor" that had seen better days, heck it won't even compile in a modern IDE. We've worked with some third-party resources to license other tools, but to be more modern and streamlined we've been creating our development toolchain 100% natively in Godot.

      5. Server Modernization - The server build has been extremely stable and hasn't required many updates but due to some of our software being deprecated it has forced our hand to modernize the server build. This is almost complete and has many QoL improvements for us!

3. Realmserver.com Forums

   1. Our web host, WIX, is deprecating their forums module. So in the near future you will see the forums become unavailable. I've kicked around the idea of just using another forums platform, but in all honesty it is hardly used. For now we'll just move those discussions over to our official Discord server: https://discord.gg/realmserver
